Family game nights are a fun and wonderful way to spend time together. However, on occasion, they can also devolve into a nightmare involving fights, dishonesty, and bitter losers. These pointers will help you enjoy the games and stay away from the drama.

- Select games that accommodate the tastes and abilities of all players. If the players in your group are of varying ages and skill levels, look for games that are simple to pick up, require some luck, and are completed quickly. Stay away from games that some players may find too difficult, competitive, or frustrating.

- Establish ground rules prior to beginning. A consensus on the game's rules, the method for keeping score, and what to do in the event of a tie or disagreement should be established. Additionally, you can choose the consequences of breaking the rules, like losing a turn, having to pay a fine, or accepting a foolish challenge.

Show some grace. Treat your opponents with courtesy and respect whether you win or lose. If you succeed, don't brag, poke fun at, or give in. If you lose, don't moan, complain, or level accusations. Thank everyone for participating and congratulate the winner.

- Enjoy yourself. Recall that the purpose of playing games with your family is to have fun and spend time together. Avoid getting overly attached to the results of the games or taking them too seriously. Cherish the moment, support your teammates, and laugh at your own mistakes.
